Why are rolls royce cars so expensive?
I mean, whats the appeal?|||All the wood on the interior is hand carved and each piece is picked by hand to make sure the grain looks good. Also all of the interior leather is hand sewn and put in by hand. Its is made by people, not machines...
Its a very expensive car to make... therefore an even more expensive car to purchase.|||its for status. just makes really rich people look better than other rich people.|||the materials are all top notch , in addition to what was said about the leather , the farm the cows were raised on cannot have any barbed wire in it . The cars are hand crafted by artisans , not screwed together by union " slap it together and get it on the truck " whiners .|||the cars are hand made and they last forever.
for sure your paying for the name but also the quality and craftsmanship.

My dad is planning to buy either a rolls royce or benz slr mclaren.?

What is the best way to clean the seats on my Rolls Royce?
I am assuming that they are leather, in that case, Mr Clean Magic Eraser and a clean, moist white cloth work great. The magic eraser has no chemicals, so wont dry out the leather.|||Have your chauffeur look after it. Don't ask your butler. Cleaning is beneath his station. Is it possible to do a handbrake turn in a rolls royce?
i own a 1981 Silver Cloudand i can tell you that it would be impossible. To stop the darn thing takes all four wheel.|||It would be difficult. I don't want to say impossible because I'm sure Top Gear would want to prove me wrong.
A handbrake turn involves putting the car into a rear wheel skid and then accelerating out of it once you're pointing in the right direction. The weight of a Rolls Royce would mean you'd have to be going quite fast to get it into a rear wheel skid and you then wouldn't have enough power to accelerate out. You might be able to point the front end where you want to go, but the car would keep moving in the same direction.|||Will be unless the particular model you try to do it in has a braking control system to prevent skids which newer ones have|||Yes it can be done in any vehicle...

The reall bike enthusiast will ride a sportbike or dual sport. What made harley's popular were the hell's angels and the movie born to be wild. When you buy a motorcycle then drive it 10 minutes to the local starbucks and talk about all the upgrades you've done to it for 3 hours consider yourself a harley owner.|||If you have to ask, you don't and can't understand.

I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to ride a cruiser.... if i did get one, the yamaha v-star is one of the nicer ones i've seen.|||Maybe its the goofy costumes people feel they need to wear when riding one. Or the antiquated technology and ridiculously low power to weight ratio. Could also be the inflated price tag and high foreign part content (40%+). Then again there's also the requirement to spend an additional $2,000 on loud pipes and a new cam the day after you buy it.|||105 years of tradition creates a loyal following. I personally try to buy American whenever possible.
Anyone who has ever ridden a Harley knows they have a unique feel ,a 6-700 lb. bike that handles almost effortlessly and a ton of torque .
The fact that there is a huge amount of after market accessories available makes them a fun bike to customize, the options are almost endless.
Harley's come in all shapes and sizes ,from the 883 to a Road King with a with a big inch kit, so there is a Harley for every one.
Further ,bikes shows, poker runs and events like Sturgis ,Laughlin, Hollister, Daytona, The Redwood Run ,4 Corners etc. etc. make for endless activities beyond just going for a ride.
These may not make Harley the "Rolls Royce" of motorcycles ,but it's what I like about them and I assume a big part of their popularity.|||Harley Davidson and Rolls Royce, what a complimentary pair.

A long time ago, I heard a story of a man who wanted to travel the world. Money being no object, he chose a Rolls Royce. The stated reason was that it was the only automobile at the time that he could get service for all over the world.
Other than Harley Davidson, can you name any other company that enjoys the same reputation?|||cuz the world is full sheep|||A legend in their own minds!!! 2 words Hondas and Ducatis rule..(for me anyways cause I have them) but I would never spend $45,000 just so I can stand around kicking tires with other Harley riders and talk about how much money I've spent. The fact that there is a huge amount of after market accessories available makes them a fun bike to customize, the options are almost endless.
Harley's come in all shapes and sizes ,from the 883 to a Road King with a with a big inch kit, so there is a Harley for every one.
Further ,bikes shows, poker runs and events like Sturgis ,Laughlin, Hollister, Daytona, The Redwood Run ,4 Corners etc. etc. make for endless activities beyond just going for a ride.

Im looking for specifics. PLEASE dont say "its classier". if that is your answer, then please explain WHY.|||Your right there are not a lot of specs on either one of these cars. I did come across this article from automobile magazine but it's pretty sparse on information about the car other then luxury and what not. The New York times has some information on it. One thing that has always made the Rolls stand out from any other car, is the fact that aside from the welding of the body, this is one of the few cars that is still assembled completely by hand. the leather seats are all still all hand stitched, the carpets are custom cut for each car and fit to precise size, any time you call for a wood trim it is still hand crafted and fitted to the car. the detail and work that goes in to a rolls is truly what you pay for when you buy one of these cars. Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to ride in one knows what I am talking about. It is truly a master piece of automotive construction. While I was in, I noticed the private rooms.
It made me feel so low, second class and unimportant.
The private rooms had fancy curtains, pretty decor, and only one patient per room. The rest of us were in a shared, mixed ward (that's males and females together), with just a curtain between the beds (mine had blood on it from some unfortunate patient before me) and with a couple of feet between each bed.
Talk about feeling inferior!
Not that I minded others having the lovely rooms. Just that I wish all could be treated equally. Not to bring them down, but to raise everyone else up, if you know what I mean.
If we aren't equal in sickness, I don't believe we can say we are equal at all.
So I very much sympathise with Americans who can't afford good health insurance. How do i remove rear discs on a 70s rolls royce?
i have removed a ring of about 12 bolts in the center cap but cannot remove the cap .can any one please help?|||I tried that a couple of weeks ago. The discs had slipped and the car was in real pain. It had been confined to bed for over 2 weeks. In the end I felt it best to put it out of its agony and had it put down. Hope it doesn't come to that for you. If I just wanted a fast car, and didn't care what anybody thinks, I'd go for a Porsche Carrara 4, or a late-model Corvette.

in more detail, the story is that my mother owns a 1977 silver shadow 2. If anything, a major manufacturer has a negative effect on the luxury or sports brand it buys by introducing parts and platform sharing. If I wanted an Aston martin or a lambo or Bentley, I would prefer it to have bespoke switchgear and engines as opposed to parts from the part bin. Smaller and more exotic manufacturers tend to build cars with a bit more passion than the majors. Fiat owns Ferrari and Alfa, Proton owns Lotus and the list goes on. Majors do it to add exclusivity to their brands but generally they tend to let go of them after a while.

Also what is the cost of a new BMW V8 in the UK?|||No, it will not be compatible. The Shadow has a Rolls-Royce designed V8 that includes the pumps for the high pressure brake system. The BMW engine will not, and may not even fit in the space available. If you want to heep your Shadow it's probably better to rebuild the Rolls-Royce engine; if you want a BMW get a BMW.
Fitting an alternate engine to one of these cars is a major and expensive engineering project and will virtually destroy the resale value, since these are now collector's cars.

Is 24 inch rims too big for a rolls royce phantom sedan?
Or would it fit perfect because it has quite a large wheel well. Also, would ride comfort be compromised or not because you can still put some pretty thick tires on them.|||Some states are starting to ban wheels that large, so there's the first problem. Second, they look ridiculous on anything, whether it's a car or truck or SUV. Third, yes, ride comfort would be sorely compromised. The shorter the sidewall, the less the tire can absorb imperfections, which means more harshness is transferred to the driver. Even a 1" decrease in sidewall will make a huge difference.|||I'd imagine it wouldn't look stupid, and it'd ride well, since the wheel well is so damn huge on every Royce I see. Then again, I'm no engineer or anything.

I think that what could be the matter is that you are not spending the money necessary to maintain that car, nor are you putting the right grade of fuel in the car.
That car is designed for use for thousands of miles if maintained properly.

I have a rolls royce motor and tranny but how can i tell what they are?
I know it is a rolls royce motor and tranny i am just trying to figure out what tranny i have all it has on it is PA#651689 and PA#653047.|||Rolls Royce make engines for tanks, trucks, airplanes, ships and cars...I assume from the attached transmission (gearbox) this is an in-line engine for a vehicle. I assume you have the name Rolls Royce on the Cam Covers...and that is how you know it is a RR engine. If it is Petrol...it is almost certainly a car and if it is diesel it is probably a heavy vehicle. The Cubic Capacity should be on the block somewhere...CC not Cubic Inches. How many cylinders does it have, is it a straight four, six or V8? Is the gearbox manual or automatic, 4, 5 or 6 speed or even 4x4... need a bit more to go on.

Bolt Pattern (Exhaust) Rolls Royce Merlin, Allison, & Griffin engines?
Does anyone know where I can find a detail showing the actual specs on the bolt patterns for any of these engines, I have the one to measure but I was hoping to get real specs. Anyone have any drawings laying around? (circa 1940's) Packard Merlin will suffice|||If your talking about the exhaust stacks they are independent pieces with two bolts per stack I don't have a set of heads handy or one of the stacks. But if you get in touch with anyone who works on these and has a part lying around they can give you the dimensions try courtesy aviation or stallion 51 aviation. Check trade-a-plane for anyone offering services on merlin engines or warbirds.|||My memory is slipping I guess, the stacks have four bolts each. Here is a company that still has them and many other merlin parts.

I know the top speed with the electronic lock is 155 mph / 250 kmph

Concorde Rolls Royce Olympus Reheat Valve (after burner) VALUE??
I have a reheat valve (after burner) from a Rolls Royce Olympus Engine that were fitted to a Concorde airliner.
I was wondering if anyone knew the value of such an item??|||I'm fairly sure there are people out there that would fork out a lot more for ANY part of the concorde. (I'm not one of them though by the way sorry). Just find the right group of 'Aerosexuals'. Best of luck.|||Maybe it's the Valve that allowed the fuel flow to go to the exhaust nozzle so that raw fuel can be mixed with these exhaust gases. It com busts immediately, providing more power but it also guzzles more gas and the Concorde was one hell of a gas guzzler.|||Nothing.
The Concorde cannot fly anymore since EADS has withdrawn support for the type.
The best you can do is try and sell it on eBay, but it won't be worth as much as a Machmeter or a control yoke.|||Not an awful lot.|||Typical price that such an object would fetch on ebay would be in the region of 拢15. Without the green ticket and inspection paperwork denoting it as ready for flight, that is as much as you can expect.
